Four Score and Seven Years

Abraham LincolnGettysburg Address

Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

Abraham Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address on November 19, 1863, at the dedication of a cemetery for soldiers killed in the Battle of Gettysburg. At just over two minutes long, it is one of the most memorized speeches in American history, and this is its opening line.
